The Hospital promotes “patient-centered” concept and its green healthcare culture has been highly recognized by all sectors of society. Since its opening, the Hospital has been promoting medical aids and assistance for patients with serious and rare diseases. It has provided medical therapies to hundreds of children from impoverished areas suffering from cleft lips, osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) and cerebral palsy. A Kids Caring Corner has been opened for children in the Hospital. Currently, the Hospital has established 30 patient groups, covering anti-smoking, cardiac rehabilitation, gout, spinal arthritis, scoliosis, preterm infants and breast cancer patients, etc.
The cleft lip and palate mission events provide medical aids to patients from provinces including Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou. The Hospital has so far provided free surgical treatment to over 400 children.
The Hospital has also set up the largest multidisciplinary Treatment Center for Osteogenesis Imperfecta in mainland China. The Divison of Physiotherapy has rolled out a series of physiotherapy catering for cerebral palsy, osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) and scoliosis patients, and has delivered medical assistance to the needy.
The Hospital has set up the first Children’s Dialysis Center in the city, providing regular dialyses treatment for children with kidney failure. Charges on treatment have been waived or reduced to relieve the financial burden of impoverished families.
Introduction of Patient Groups and Activities
1. Cleft Lip and Palate Mission Events
Starting from June 2015, the Hospital has organized sequential cleft lip and palate mission events, providing surgical treatments, free of charge and on voluntary basis, to patients across the country. The youngest child who received treatment was merely over 3 months old. As of December 2021, the Hospital had organized 10 mission events. Over 400 patients have satisfactorily completed surgical treatments and sweet smiles have appeared on the faces of these lucky kids once again.

2. Rescue Missions for Skeletal Dysplasia Patients
The Division of Pediatric Orthopedics has offered medical treatments for Skeletal Dysplasia patients since 2014. It has carried out voluntary events that provide free medical aids in Shenzhen and other cities annually. The Division has hosted or participated in numerous free courses, where patients shared their knowledge and understanding of rare diseases. Online consultations have also been rolled out. This series of events has so far witnessed more than 100,000 participants. In 2016, the Division took the lead to set up the largest multidisciplinary Treatment Center for Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) in South China. As one of the co-organizers, it held the Fifth China-Dolls National Conference for People with Osteogenesis Imperfecta in 2017, attracting over 200 OI patients, family members and those with rare diseases.

3. Preterm Infants Support Group
The Division of Neonatology launched the Preterm Infants Support Group in 2016. The Support Group promotes a family-centered caring concept. It has enabled communication and support among families having preterm infants and babies with special diseases. Awards, such as Role Model Awards for Parents, Family Members of the Year, and Outstanding Learners, have been set up to motivate parents to play a part in the wards and further involve themselves in the caring process. The Support Group provides health-themed courses and consultations on a regular basis. To raise awareness of preterm infants, charitable events like Fun Run are held annually on the World Prematurity Day.
4. Children’s Dialysis Center
The Hospital set up the first Children’s Dialysis Center in Shenzhen in August 2016. The Center is equipped with a central water treatment system, water treatment machines and peritoneal dialyzers. They render hemodialyses and peritoneal dialyses accessible to children with kidney failure. Up till now, multiple patients have received hemodialyses, with charges waived or reduced to relieve the financial burden of those from impoverished families. It has been widely acclaimed by the society.
